Where Will the Portuguese Language Take You

Where Will the Portuguese Language Take You?

Portuguese is one of the most interesting languages in the world to learn. For a native English speaker a lot of the words will be fairly familiar sounding but it is also different and exotic enough to make it hugely interesting to study. Of course, once you master the new tongue you will need to find something to do to make use of it. How do these ideas appeal to you?

A Trip to Brazil

The Portuguese language spoken in South America is rather different from that spoken in Portugal. If you have learned the European type then it might take you a little while to get the hang of the Brazilian accent and locally used words. When it comes to things to do here you are spoiled for choice. Rio de Janeiro is a city most of us dream of visiting at some point in our lives. Sao Paolo is one of the biggest and most vibrant places on the planet. The waterfalls at Iguacu are utterly spectacular. These are just a few of the most well known attractions and if you have the time then there are many magical spots to check out.

Time in Portugal

Lisbon is the first stop for many people who come here, and it is a city steeped in the history of the glory days of geographical discoveries and global trading. The country is also famous for its food, its beaches and its friendly, open citizens. A trip to Portugal is something you are unlikely to forget.

An African Adventure

One of the reminders of Portugal’s colonial past is the fact that the language is still spoken in places such as Mozambique and Angola. These countries may not be all that well known by tourists but they offer great natural beauty and plenty of activities for the more adventurous traveler. Mozambique in particular has a growing tourist industry which we will probably hear a lot more of in the near future.

It can be tough keeping going with language lessons. If you take Portuguese lessons in Houston or another North American city then Rio and Angola can seem a world away. However, learning a new language is the single best way to open up the doors of the world and start exploring it. Maybe you’ll look at Russian lessons in Houston and travel to see the Kremlin and Red Square next?
