Any 'about the author' page seems
  to me as a first day at school.

  The teacher usually calls someone by   name and asks

"So-and-so, could you please introduce yourself to the class?"

The chosen one stands up a little ashamed, and says...

"Hi, my name is..." and repeats again his/her own name, which had just been mentioned!

If you read the title of this page, you've probably heard about me. Anyway...

Hi, my name's Charlles Nunes - I couldn't help saying that ;)

I was born and raised in Volta Redonda, The Brazilian Steel Capital, in Rio de Janeiro State, where I still survive with my VPW (Very Patient Wife) and our 4 VEK (Very Excited Kids).

How Language Learning Became Part of My Life...

As I worked side by side with some foreigners who were starting learning Portuguese, I had to learn some English to communicate.

One of them who already spoke Portuguese decided to help me in a very personal way. By getting up at 5:30 and reading the Scriptures an hour a day, in about 3 months I was able to speak the basics.

In the meantime, I started keeping my journal in English. I knew the grammar mistakes I commited (and still do) were just part of the process...

After concluding that volunteer service, learning English became my top priority. Before applying for a teacher position, however, I needed to improve my performance.

I decided to sell some hot dogs on the street to get the money and take some English lessons.

Before I started it, however, I came in contact with a language institution owner, and showed him my journal. He simply decided to run the risk and hired me! ;-)

By doing so, he gave me the opportunity to try a new career. Otherwise, I could be still selling those delicious hot dogs!

How Language Teaching Became My Lifetime Career

When a friend of mine heard that I had been a teacher, he asked for my help with the English basics. (How could I say 'no'?)

One Monday evening, we studied for two hours. At the end of the period, all he could notice was the difference between 'I like' and 'to like'.

On my way home, however, instead of being frustrated for our very short progress, I realized that I was really happy for spending the evening teaching someone!

So I went to college, to study English and Portuguese formally.

Since then, the interaction with hundreds of students has been my source of personal and professional inspiration.

In 2001 I even published a book, telling how I learned English in Brazil , with limited resources. In a couple of years, I became a bit famous, at least on my street;)

How This Web Site Came To Be...

After devouring it at once, I became the author's fan.

Long story short, I started this Web site using the tools provided by his company - SiteSell.com - and earned my first $500 online by making this simple home video, which could be called 'Brazilian Kids in Action':

I know it will take time and efforts, but I am willing to pay the price. Besides, my VPW is supporting me. ;)
